Future Career Prospects in the Economy and in Research

The Master in Quantitative Economics (MQE) program is a fast track Master program that is designed to provide training in Economics at a very high graduate level.

The MQE is comparable to the first two years of a Ph.D. program at the best US universities. The key intention of it is to offer exceptionally talented students a fast track to careers as academic or professional economists, providing them with the most advanced tools and methods in quantitative economics.

With a degree from the Master in Quantitative Economics program, students are well equipped for top PhD programs. Former students of the LMU’s Economics Faculty have already successfully applied for top programs.

In addition, we also encourage research focused students of our Master program to apply for the Ph.D. Program at the Munich Graduate School of Economics (MGSE).

The MGSE provides advanced training for in-depth research in economics. The program has a strong focus on the application of state-of-the-art methods. It combines demanding course work and an early start of individual research. Positions offer comprehensive supervising and mentoring schemes, excellent international contacts and access to an outstanding research infrastructure.

A completed Master of Quantitative Economics at the LMU offers the best conditions for pursuing your doctoral studies at the Munich Graduate School of Economics.

Students from Munich’s programs have moved on to start academic careers in very prestigious PhD programs like Barcelona, Berkeley, Cambridge, EUI Florence, Harvard, LSE, MIT, Oxford, Princeton, or Toulouse (or, of course, our very own MGSE).

Furthermore, our graduates have joined governmental and non-governmental institutions like the Bundesbank, the ECB, federal or state ministries, the OECD, or the Worldbank. Finally, our students also land jobs in leading global companies like Allianz, BMW, HypoVereinsbank, Munich Re, o2, Siemens, or with the most prestigious consulting firms.
